Publication of sexual offences statistical bulletin

The Sentencing Council has published a statistical bulletin and data tables, explaining current sentencing practice for selected sexual offences.

This is in preparation for the launch of the Council’s sexual offences guideline consultation, which will be published tomorrow (Thursday 13 May).

Sentencing pregnant women and new mothers

As of 1 April 2024, the Council is including a new, dedicated mitigating factor: ‘Pregnancy, childbirth and post-natal care’, in the majority of offence specific sentencing guidelines, providing guidance for courts on sentencing pregnant offenders and new mothers.
