RUSI awarded grant to study diplomacy on the Korean peninsula

The Korea Foundation has awarded RUSI’s Proliferation and Nuclear Policy team a grant to explore a freeze-for-freeze agreement between North Korea, the US and regional stakeholders.

This project investigates the views of the six key states – China, the DPRK, Japan, the ROK, the Russian Federation and the US – on the scope and structure of a potential agreement that would exchange security concessions for a freeze on the DPRK’s weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and ballistic missile programmes.

Research Analyst Cristina Varriale said 'Despite all the talk about the prospect for a freeze deal, little research has been carried out to consider what the detailed provisions of such an agreement could look like in practice. This project will fill that gap'.

This project will build on RUSI’s substantial existing body of work on North Korea, which can be found here https://rusi.org/regions/pacific/north-korea
