Researchers wanted to study the public’s views of health-related quality of life

Applications close on Wednesday 4 March 2020.

Researchers have been asked to express their interest in running a study of the UK public’s valuation of health-related quality of life.

NICE is backing the collection of new data to resolve concerns about the existing EQ-5D-5L value set for England.

EQ-5D-5L is a questionnaire designed to measure health-related quality of life. The new study will gather the public’s views about which aspects of health matter the most. The results of the study will be used to create a value set, which converts questionnaire responses into a number called a utility value. This information is used to inform many of NICE’s decisions about whether treatments provide good value for money.

The new EQ-5D-5L valuation study will be funded by the EuroQol Research Foundation with ongoing advisory input from NICE, the Department of Health and Social Care and NHS England and NHS Improvement.

Researchers may participate in the study in three ways: as the principal investigator, a site investigator or as a member of the steering group.

The valuation study will be overseen by a steering group that will include representatives from EuroQol and the NICE, the Department of Health and Social Care and NHS England and NHS Improvement, plus experts in health-state valuation studies or valuation-data modelling.

The EuroQol EQ-VT support team will assist the study team throughout the project. Data collection is expected to begin in late 2020.

The application form and more detailed information about the roles, study requirements and governance arrangements for the new valuation study for the UK can be viewed on the EuroQol website.

The deadline for applications is Wednesday 4 March 2020.
