RoSPA and OPSS launch online shopping warning ahead of Christmas

RoSPA and OPSS recently (11 November 2021) launched online shopping warning ahead of Christmas.

Ashley Martin, Public Health Adviser at RoSPA recently said:

“As more and more of us decide to shop online, many of us may be unaware that online platforms are not always the seller of the products on their websites but often act as an intermediary between an independent company and the buyer.

“To help everyone make safe purchases this Christmas, The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) are sharing the following checklist from the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS).

“Before you buy online ask yourself:

  • Are you buying directly from an Online Platform or is it a third-party seller?
  • What do you know about the seller’s reputation for selling safe goods?
  • Is the seller based in the UK?
  • Does the seller provide a name and address for you to contact?

”RoSPA have been champions of product safety and raising consumer awareness over many years and have worked closely with the OPSS on many issues and campaigns, including the delivery of key safety messaging around magnets, button batteries and whirlpool tumble dryers.”
