Sentencing Council makes consequential amendments to guidelines as a result of legislation
From today, two legislative provisions come into force which have required consequential amendments to various sentencing guidelines.
The first is section 83 of the Crime and Policing Act 2026, which will introduce a new statutory aggravating factor of grooming to certain offence-specific guidelines.
The second provision is section 15 of the Victims and Courts Act 2026 which amends the limit on magistrates’ powers for certain offences.
A full list of the changes, which apply to offences for which an offender was convicted on or after 29 June 2026, can be found here.
