Statement of the Criminal Cases Review Commission on the appeal hearing in the case or Alexander Blackman February 2017

Recently the Court Martial Appeal Court reserved its judgment in relation to the hearing this week in the case of Alexander Blackman.

The Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC) referred the case to the Court Martial Appeal Court in December 2016 following an in-depth 11-month investigation in the case.

In light of the Court’s decision to reserve judgment in this case, it is not appropriate for the CCRC to make any comment at this stage.

Any media enquiries should be directed to Justin Hawkins on 07947 355231 or alternatively 07789 945304.

Background

The CCRC issued a press release about the case and its decision to refer Mr Blackman’s murder conviction to the Court of Appeal on 6th December 2016. That press release can be found on the CCRC homepage at www.ccrc.gov.uk
