Strong progress on County Lines – NCA working with police to improve further
Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services (HMICFRS) has published a report after an inspection of how County Lines is dealt with at local, regional and national levels.
Responding to the report, the National Crime Agency’s lead for County Lines, Director of Investigations, Nikki Holland, recently said:
“We welcome this report into the national law enforcement response to County Lines. It recognises the strong progress being made by the National County Lines Coordination Centre, jointly run by the National Crime Agency and National Police Chiefs’ Council, to keep the public safe from the criminals exploiting vulnerable people, flooding our communities with drugs, and bringing violence to our streets.
“In the last year more than 2,500 arrests have been made and more than 3,000 people safeguarded from County Lines networks after action coordinated by the centre; a significant success that demonstrates the power of working as a united front with our partners.
“We will continue strengthening our response, ensuring we have the right tools to fight those harming our communities. The Serious and Organised Crime Review, which is currently underway, provides an opportunity to consider how this report’s recommendations could be implemented to better protect the public.”
