TUC Executive Committee statement on Ukraine

TUC Executive Committee statement given yesterday on Ukraine.

In light of the alarming escalation of the conflict in Ukraine, the TUC Executive Committee sends our solidarity to the Ukrainian people and our sister trade union movement as they face the horror and suffering of the conflict and we continue to condemn the illegal Russian invasion. We condemn attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure and call on all parties to respect international law. As always, civilians are suffering the most, and according to the UNHCR there are now at least 6.2 million people internally displaced.

We send our full support for the rights and freedoms of the trade union movement in Ukraine, and reject the British Government’s support for curbing labour rights there. We join the global trade union movement in calling for peace. We condemn any threat to use nuclear weapons and call for urgent efforts to be made to reach a negotiated solution through diplomacy.
