TUC: Solidarity Statement with the Cuban CTC Trade Union (en ingles y español)

On behalf of our 5.5 million members in the United Kingdom, the Trades Union Congress reaffirms our strong bonds of solidarity and friendship with the Cuban workers organised in the CTC.

The UK trade union movement takes deep pride in our historic ties of friendship with the Cuban workers’ movement. We continue to condemn the illegal and unjust blockade of your country by the United States and we restate our long-standing policy to oppose it.

At our 2019 Congress we passed a motion congratulating Cuba on the 60th anniversary of the revolution and the CTC on its 80th anniversary. We also condemned the measures taken by the US administration at the time as economic warfare intended to cause tangible suffering.

We admire Cuba’s achievements in health, in education, in social welfare, in women’s representation and in humanitarian aid across the world – achieved despite the debilitating impact of the blockade. We note also that, throughout this pandemic, Cuba has embodied international solidarity by sending health workers around the world helping others.

The TUC notes the right of the Cuban people to live free from hostile outside interference and send our brothers and sisters of the CTC and the Cuban people our solidarity.
