TUC calls on government to lift public sector pay restrictions fast
Commenting on reports that the government will review the artificial 1% pay restrictions on public sector workers, TUC General Secretary Frances O’Grady said:
“It's about time that hard-working public sector workers got they pay rise they've earned.
“If these artificial pay restrictions are lifted, it will be a massive victory for trade union campaigning and hard-pressed public servants.
“But this can't be kicked in to the long grass, it needs to happen now. Public sector workers have waited long enough.
“And any increase has to be backed by new money, not by loading new costs on councils, hospitals and schools.”
A recent TUC poll showed that 76% of voters want to give public sector workers a payrise - including 68% of Conservative voters.
