The King's Fund responds to the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care's vision for prevention

David Buck, Senior Fellow at The King’s Fund, commented on the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care’s vision for prevention

'The Secretary of State’s emphasis on preventing ill health and the promise of a Green Paper are welcome. There have been many promises about championing prevention which have not been acted on. This time it must be different and it must be complemented by a renewed drive to tackle inequalities in health.

'We know from the long-term push on smoking and the more recent soft drinks levy that bold government action using taxation and regulation can make a big difference. Politicians may balk at the idea of the 'nanny state', but research shows that these types of government interventions enjoy more public support than they often assume.'
