Two men arrested in Sheffield on suspicion of drugs and firearms offences
Two men arrested in Sheffield on suspicion of drugs and firearms offences.
Officers from the Yorkshire and the Humber Regional Organised Crime Unit, South Yorkshire Police and the National Crime Agency (NCA) yesterday (Wednesday 8 May) arrested two men in Sheffield on suspicion of drugs and firearms offences.
The early morning raids led by the Yorkshire and Humber Regional Organised Crime Unit, came after six firearms including a sub-machine gun, ammunition and suspected class A drugs were seized on 6 April.
The arrest operation happened in the Totley and Woodseats areas. The weapons, ammunition and suspected drugs were seized from an address on Abbeydale Road in the city.
The two men aged 29 and 22 remain in police custody as enquiries continue.
The operation was not terrorist related
Nikki Holland, Director of Investigations at the NCA, yesterday said:
“Firearms are used by organised crime groups to coerce, intimidate and to commit serious violence. Suppressing the availability of firearms and preventing their use is a priority for the NCA as they pose a real risk to the public.
“We are committed to working with partners at a local level to deliver a whole system approach in tackling serious and organised crime.
“As part of this operation, we have utilised our specialist capabilities to help seize a cache of firearms and disrupt suspected drug dealing activities on the streets of Sheffield.”
