UK Cyber Security Council Launches First Initiatives

The new Council has instigated two initial initiatives to help develop the cyber security profession.

Further to its mandate from Government to provide a focal point through which industry and the professional landscape can advise, shape and inform policy on cyber security professional standards, the recently launched UK Cyber Security Council has launched its first two initiatives to support its objectives – the formation of a Professional Standards & Ethics Committee and a Qualification & Careers Committee.

The Council’s immediate priority is to raise professional standards in the sector, helping to ensure a common set of professional standards are adopted through education and training initiatives. This work will be complemented by initial mapping of the Cyber Security Body of Knowledge (CyBOK)’s qualifications framework onto a public-facing Careers Pathways Framework.

As one of the 16 members of the Cyber Security Alliance group commissioned by DCMS to set up the Council, techUK will be known as a Founding Member of the Council and has been invited to apply for a role in helping to determine the terms of reference for these committees. The committees themselves will be populated by members of the Council who will play a key role in advancing the cyber security industry.

Membership of the Council will be open to organisations with an interest in promoting, supporting and developing the cyber security profession from September 2021. You can find our more and register your interest here.
