UK Government must extend job retention scheme to save jobs, says Wales TUC

Commenting on the latest employment figures published by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), Wales TUC General Secretary Shavanah Taj yesterday said:

“The alarm bells couldn’t be ringing any louder. Governments in both Westminster and Cardiff must act to protect and create jobs."

“That means extending the job retention scheme for businesses with a viable future who can’t operate because of virus restrictions. It means taking action to protect good quality jobs in Wales’ threatened manufacturing and aviation sectors. It means investing in the fair work, equitable jobs we need for the future in green industries, construction and social care. And it means ensuring a decent safety net is in place to help those who lose their jobs get back on their feet."

“The more people are in work the faster our economy will recover from this crisis."

Wales TUC is the voice of Wales at work. With 48 member unions, Wales TUC represents just over 400,000 workers. We campaign for a fair deal at work and for social justice at home and abroad.
