Unicef UK response to the Government’s Spending Review announcement that 0.7% ODA will be temporarily reduced to 0.5%

Unicef UK’s Director of Advocacy, Joanna Rea, responded to the Government’s Spending Review

“Millions of children globally rely on UK Aid to survive and have never needed aid more, with 6,000 more children at risk of dying each day from the impact of Coronavirus on vital health services. We must ensure no child is left behind in the wake of today’s decision.

“The UK’s commitment to 0.7 has secured Britain’s standing and leadership on the global stage and shown our dedication and compassion to the world and its most vulnerable people.

“Unicef UK urges the Foreign Secretary to urgently confirm that this cut is time-bound to 2021, outline exactly how and when 0.7 will be reinstated and uphold the Government’s commitment to the world’s children as they face the biggest global crisis since the Second World War.”
