Unicef resources available to media reporting on the Coronavirus
In countries with ongoing humanitarian situations, the pandemic has added yet another layer of vulnerability.
- Children housebound due to coronavirus – related school closures: 1.2 billion learners
- Refer to WHO website for the latest figures on numbers affected globally
- To date, UNICEF has shipped more than 4.41 million gloves, 786,450 surgical masks, 199,631 N95 respirators, 203,435 gowns and 13,128 goggles globally.
The urban poor, internally displaced and refugee/migrant populations are especially at risk as they tend to live in overcrowded settings, with restricted access to healthcare, handwashing and sanitation facilities. Children on the move will be further exposed to the disease as basic essential and life-saving services are unavailable due to control measures, movement restrictions, border closures and discriminatory access to testing and other health services.
UNICEF is focused on meeting the urgent needs of children and families, especially in the most vulnerable communities, working with partners to ensure that they have the support they need by providing personal protective equipment to healthcare workers, water and sanitation facilities, and education and child protection services.
