Uniting business and arts with a visionary new partnership

Funding from Arts Council England and the National Lottery is supporting an internationally renowned dance-circus company as they join forces with an innovative British furniture manufacturer - uniting arts and business in one inspirational space.

Furniture manufacturers Vitsœ and touring dance-circus company Motionhouse are pioneering a vibrant, like-minded working community as they share Vitsœ’s new production building in Royal Leamington Spa.

The co-habitation initiative, focused on making and creativity, has received £377,087 from Arts Council England’s Capital funding programme through the National Lottery. Vitsœ officially opened their new headquarters and production building in October 2017 and the naturally lit and ventilated building lends itself beautifully as a rehearsal space for Motionhouse.

Peter Knott, Area Director, Arts Council England, said: “Creative partnerships such as this are a fantastic way to share ideas and discover new ways of working. As part of our Capital funding, we are pleased to be supporting Motionhouse as they become ever more resilient and innovative.

“Together, Vitsoe and Motionhouse can inspire and complement each other, blending the best of art and business to form a unique and productive atmosphere where creativity can thrive.”

This year marks the 30th anniversary of Motionhouse, which creates work for theatres and performance outdoors, reaching audiences up and down the UK, in Europe and internationally with its distinctive dance-circus style.

Vitsœ has a long history of collaborating with artists, designers and educational institutes and since the 1960s, has engaged with creative thinkers. In their new shared space, Motionhouse dancers and Vitsœ teams can now work together, meeting each day to share coffee, lunch and conversation.

Managing director of Vitsœ, Mark Adams said: “In conceiving our new building, we wanted to create a space that was adaptable and enabled us to explore cultural interactions and connections.

“Experiencing dance can have a powerful, transformative effect and Motionhouse is a creative force whose work is truly breath-taking. Our collaboration brings together creative minds from different disciplines, offering new perspectives that enrich our working lives.”
