Want to talk tech? Come and join us! - New BCS Branch Launches in Cumbria (North)
Cumbria (North) is a brand-new branch of BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT and is open to anyone interested in IT, computing and all things digital, whether BCS member or not.

- First event: Corporate Cloud - the forecast is cloudy - Tuesday 28th March, North Lakes Hotel and Spa
Its first event is on Tuesday 28th March at North Lakes Hotel and Spa, and is open to anyone with an interest in IT and computing, and is free of charge. The evening begins with a committee meeting from 18:00-18:30 - anyone interested in joining the committee is welcome to attend.
This will be followed by a presentation entitled: Corporate cloud - the forecast is cloudy, followed by networking and discussions about the shaping of the branch. For more information and to book a lace visit: https://events.bcs.org/book/2469/
The branch will be organising events and talks on new IT topics and trends, and aims to work with local organisations, schools and colleges to raise the profile of computing and IT in the local area.
Stephen Ironmonger, Chair of BCS Cumbria (North) Branch says: “Technology touches every aspect of our daily lives, and the recent publication of the Government’s Digital Strategy highlights the wide range of topics affecting one of the UK’s most important sectors - not just for its value to the UK economy, but also for its potential to change the world for the better. Coming along and joining this new, local BCS branch, gives you the opportunity to help shape and support your own community - and beyond.
Stephen continues: “We want to hear what is important to you. If there are topics you would like to see on the event list, if you have an idea about how this new branch can help people in your area, or are just interested in finding out more about the branch, contact us. If you have some time on your hands or want to bring ideas to the branch, why not join the committee, or get involved in volunteering? We are always happy to see new faces.”
The meetings are not only about networking, but also provide a chance to learn about different aspects of IT and technology, build on existing knowledge, and for IT professionals - an opportunity to contribute towards continuing professional development (CPD).
