Water companies set out vision to keep taps running for future generations

Plans by the region’s water companies to keep the taps running for future generations will be showcased when the Consumer Council for Water (CCWater) meets in Newmarket on Tuesday (6th February)

The water watchdog will be providing consumers with the opportunity to hear how water suppliers are turning to the latest technology and innovation to safeguard water supplies for homes and businesses over the next 30 years.

Severn Trent, Anglian Water, South Staffordshire Water and Essex and Suffolk Water will explain how they hope to overcome the challenges of population growth and climate change, whilst keeping bills affordable for customers.

Newmarket is the ideal backdrop for the meeting with the town currently home to some of Anglian Water’s innovations – including a Smarter Drop Shop featuring the latest water-saving gadgets and devices that it hopes will reduce long-term demand on the region’s stressed water resources.

Professor Bernard Crump, Central and Eastern Chair for CCWater, said: “There is no escaping the fact our water supplies are coming under growing pressure and we cannot afford to be complacent. Our meeting will highlight how the industry is working together to address some of the challenges they are likely to face in the coming months and years and the differing ways these can be addressed.”

The meeting will take place at 10.30am in Newmarket Town Hall on the High Street
