Many people start the New Year determined to learn something new. National Lottery funded projects are providing communities with the opportunity for people to develop new skills, creating a sense of purpose and building social connections. Thanks to National Lottery players, funding is helping people learn new skills. Research shows that learning a new skill improves wellbeing and boosts confidence as well as creativity and self-esteem.

Thanks to National Lottery players, a wide range of people will be learning an array of new skills, to see the full list of projects the Big Lottery Fund has awarded this month follow this link, here are just some of the projects which received funding during December 2017:

The Intersensory Club in the Vale of Glamorgan received £10,000 grant to provide cycling opportunities for older people. This grant for will buy bikes for the project including an electric tandem cycle and cycling accessories.

Hanover Court Social Committee in Monmouthshire will use their £6,695 grant to teach residents IT and computer classes. This grant will cover costs relating to two 12 week group training courses and IT equipment plus two hours 1:1 tuition for five residents.

Mindful Future CIC in Pembrokeshire £9,021 grant will provide mindfulness training to improve the quality of life for the community. This grant will fund costs associated with the courses.

Llewelyn Community Centre in Swansea will use the £9,048 grant to make improvements to the centre providing a friendly, comfortable space equipped for disabled people and those wanting to undertake cookery classes. This grant will fund a kitchen upgrade and facilities, a hearing loop, a community newsletter and event costs.

A4W Innovation CIC will spend their £10,000 grant supporting and training their volunteers to effectively run arts sessions. The sessions are with people who have mental and physical health problems in Ceredigion, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire. This grant will fund office equipment and supplies, volunteer and training expenses.

Ysgol Gymraeg Morswyn Gwynedd will use the £9,995 grant to hold after school IT classes for pupils, parents, and the community. This grant will fund laptops, a printer and a storage trolley.
