What should Europe expect from Italy’s vote?

In a climate of great uncertainty, following an electoral campaign which raised more doubts than it provided answers, Italians will vote on Sunday to elect a new government. Open Europe’s Enea Desideri considers what the vote is likely to mean for Italy’s position in the EU in the near future.

EC President Jean-Claude Juncker confirmed the concerns last week, warning the EU should prepare for a “no operational government” scenario, with the latest polls suggesting no majority is the most likely outcome of the ballot.  This, or even worse an openly EU-hostile government in Italy, could represent an obstacle on the path to a European reform.
