With inflation low Chancellor must stimulate economy at budget, says TUC
Commenting on the inflation figures, which show CPI inflation up from 0.6% in December to 0.7% in January, TUC General Secretary Frances O’Grady yesterday said:
“With inflation remaining low, the Chancellor must drive our recovery forward with investment and stimulus at the budget.
“He must start with extending full furlough to the end of the year to keep jobs safe. Major investment in support of job creation is needed too, especially green industries.
“And we need a pay boost for key workers. They’ve earned it and their spending will our help businesses and high streets recover faster.”

- The TUC’s budget submission calls for a workers’ budget, including pay rises for key workers, and investment to create jobs to replace those lost in the pandemic. A copy is here: https://www.tuc.org.uk/research-analysis/reports/workers-budget-tuc-submission-hm-treasury-march-2021-budget
