Witness appeal after complaint over Bristol arrest

We are investigating the use of force by an Avon and Somerset police officer during the arrest of a 15-year-old boy in Bristol city centre.

Police arrested and detained the boy in Marsh Street at around 4am on Sunday, 31 March after receiving a report of a robbery.

Our investigation follows a referral from Avon and Somerset Constabulary after a complaint was made alleging the boy was assaulted by a police officer.

We are also investigating a complaint about the subsequent care of the boy while he was detained in custody.

IOPC Regional Director Catrin Evans yesterday said:

“We will conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances of this incident and whether the use of force was appropriate.

“It is important that anyone who witnessed the incident contacts our investigators to help us establish the full facts.”

Anyone who witnessed the incident should call 0800 151 0019 or email marshstreet@policeconduct.gov.uk
