Witnesses to a fatal road traffic incident in Brentwood asked to come forward

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) is seeking witnesses to a fatal car crash in Brentwood, Essex in the early hours of Wednesday 17 October.

We are investigating after a 20 year old man driving a grey Nissan Micra crashed into a lamp post on Brook Street, following a police pursuit just after 3am.

The crash took place opposite a Shell petrol garage approaching the junction with the M25.

He was taken to hospital but sadly was declared dead. The man’s family have been informed and IOPC staff have met with them to explain our role.

Investigators were deployed to the scene and officers have provided initial accounts.

We are gathering CCTV footage and will be analysing police vehicle data.

Anyone who saw the incident or has any information that could be helpful should call 0800 096 9070 or email witness@policeconduct.gov.uk

IOPC Regional Director Sarah Green said: “My thoughts are with the friends and family of this young man, and all affected.

“Our family liaison staff have met with his family and our investigators are gathering evidence. If anyone can assist in this investigation I would urge them to contact us.”
