Writers wanted for new APM Body of Knowledge-inspired books

APM Body of Knowledge editor Ruth Murray-Webster said she hoped the seventh edition would be useful in guiding project professionals to deliver beneficial change. In that same spirit, APM Publishing is looking for writers and reviewers to help develop future titles in its APM Body of Knowledge inspired series of books.

With the first books in the series on stakeholder engagement and leadership set to publish this year, APM is hoping to recruit authors for phase two of its Body of Knowledge publishing programme.

Topics identified for the next phase include communication, negotiation and conflict management. Also, working professionally, including CPD, wellbeing and embracing diversity in project teams.

Reviewers are also wanted for two new titles already in development: Hybrid projects: A practical guide to blending linear and agile methods’ and ‘Leading Teams’. Both books are set to publish in 2021.

The APM Body of Knowledge-inspired range aims to explore topics covered in the APM Body of Knowledge 7th edition in more detail. Following its release in May 2019, a programme of works was put in place to develop a series of standalone titles. The first book in that series – Stakeholder engagement in projects: Harnessing the power of people by Elizabeth Harrin – is set to launch on 24 September. Project Leadership: Moving beyond command and control by Gordan McKay will follow later in the year, with a provisional release date of November 2020.

Stakeholder engagement and leading teams are core components of the ‘people and behaviours’ chapter in the APM Body of Knowledge, underlining the importance of good people management to project success. After a mapping exercise of existing publications against the Body of Knowledge contents, people skills were identified as a priority for publishing in 2020/21.

Other topics identified included hybrid approaches, which involves the blending of iterative and linear life cycles, ideas and principles.

  • New and existing authors are invited to apply for either one or multiple topics. The closing date for submissions is 30 September. Find out more by contacting publishing@apm.org.uk.
