techUK National Apprenticeship Week 2019

Yesterday marked the start of National Apprenticeship Week 2019.

This week is an annual celebration of the positive impact of apprenticeships, and the role they play in ensuring the future workforce is equipped with the skills it needs. 2019’s theme of ‘Blaze a Trail’ encourages the UK to get fired up about apprenticeships - to be vocal about all the benefits they bring - and we at techUK are certainly feel the heat.

Despite a range of initiatives from the UK Government and industry alike, the UK is still facing a major digital skills shortage. It is estimated that the digital skills gap costs the country £63 billion a year.

Apprenticeships have the potential to help narrow this gape diversity of talent in the tech sector. For employer’s apprenticeship training can provide skills training to new recruits, and further opportunities to upskill current employees. techUK believes apprenticeships are crucial as the UK grows its domestic talent pipeline.

As part of techUK’s National Apprenticeship Week campaign, we’ll be showcasing the brilliant apprentices within our member organisations and speaking to those who hire them on our website!

This week remains a fantastic way to showcase alternative routes into the tech sector, and throughout, we’ll be posting insights, videos and interviews, where these apprentices tell the inspiring stories of driving their career forward.

Get involved with the conversation using #NAW2019 and #BlazeATrail on twitter.
