techUK and Local Government Association sign an MOU to strengthen digital innovation in local government

techUK and the Local Government Association (LGA) have signed an MOU to advance digital transformation in local government. This partnership aims to promote the secure, inclusive, and effective use of digital technologies for the benefit of citizens and local communities.

The agreement, effective from 1 April 2025, outlines joint efforts in working, sharing knowledge, and engaging in policy discussions. It aims to align industry capabilities with local government needs in support of the UK Government’s plan for a modern digital government.

The agreement is based on a shared commitment to strengthen the relationship between local government and the technology sector. The partnership will bridge the gap between these communities by fostering a deeper understanding of their needs and capabilities. Both organizations will champion digital innovation and promote best practices to improve local service delivery. They will also advocate for policies that enable and accelerate digital transformation within councils, providing a platform for knowledge exchange, problem-solving, and collaboration on challenges and opportunities.

During the first year, the partnership will focus on establishing consistent and meaningful engagement through regular communication, including workshops, roundtables, webinars, and joint consultations. techUK will have a seat on the LGA’s Local Government Digital Committee, playing a direct role in shaping digital strategy and policy. The two organisations will work together on projects addressing priorities such as procurement, skills development, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and innovation. These initiatives may include research, pilot programs, or the development of practical resources, following the governance and procurement procedures of both parties .
