techUK is supporting Digital T Levels

Offer a 16-19 year old a work experience placement at your business as part of their Digital T Level qualification.

T Levels are a new, 2-year qualification for 16 to 19 year olds. Designed with employers, each T Level is equivalent to 3 A levels and helps young people develop the knowledge, attitude and practical skills to thrive in the workplace.

At the heart of each course is a 45-day industry placement. As T Levels roll out, employers across England are partnering with local colleges and schools to do industry placements and I want to highlight this opportunity to techUK members.

Employers can offer industry placements as a block, day release or a mix of these, and can discuss sharing part of the placement with another employer. Placements work for your organisation. They allow you to draw on a temporary and flexible source of talent. They allow you to get to know students who could work for you in the future, raise your profile in the local area and develop the supervision and mentoring skills of your staff. Please find here more information on the benefits of these placements to your businesses.

If you decide to offer a placement, you will get support at each stage of your industry placement journey from the National Apprenticeship Service – from selecting the right student through to managing their contribution to your business. Please find here an FAQs document that answers some of the common questions that employers have been asking.

There is also some financial support available to employers in certain circumstances where they will be able to claim £1000 for every T Level student they host on a high-quality industry placement, as part of a new incentive scheme outlined here.

In all our interactions with members, techUK hears from CEOs constantly that access to talent is the major factor in the success of their businesses and that they feel the responsibility as leaders in our industry to ensure the widest possible access for all UK people to be able to work in the high quality high value jobs we offer.

techUK believes that supporting young people in quality placements as part of a new digital tech focused education initiative is a great way to achieve both goals and so we have committed to work with our members to ensure Digital T Level students have placements from September 2021 with the best tech businesses. This initiative is a fantastic way to support young people during their qualification and give them a wider range of experiences.
