700Mhz Digital TV Clearance to Start on March 1st

14 Feb 2017 01:44 PM

Digital UK announce the first steps of the 700Mhz DTT clearance programme that will require viewer re-tuning and some aerial replacements.

Digital UK have announced that, on 1 March, the first Digital Terrestrial Televison (DTT) clearance trials will take place at the Selkirk transmitter which provides DTT services to 18,000 homes and will offer an opportunity to test proposed approaches ahead of the main programme getting underway in the north of Scotland this summer.

The full 2017 summer retune programme in Scotland is expected to cover up to 800,000 homes. We can expect that some viewers who have narrow band aerials will require an aerial change or re-point to continue to receive DTT.

This marks the start of the 700Mhz clearance which is forecast to be completed by mid 2020.

From this week, Digital UK will begin providing public information via on-screen messages and the Freeview advice line and website. DMSL will provide in-home support for viewers following the changes should it be required. Ofcom have yet to announce the tender process for the national help scheme and we expect them to wait until the results of this trial have been reviewed before starting this tender process.

Further information on the programme, regions and timetable is available via the Digital UK website below.
