ART EXHIBITION OPENS AT BELSAY HALL, CASTLE AND GARDENS

The 'Outside In' art installation, which explores landscape, runs throughout the summer at Belsay Hall, Castle and Gardens.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Belsay Hall, Castle and Gardens in Northumberland is hosting an exhibition of contemporary art this summer. Outside In; an art installation inspired by the landscape, features photographs and sculptures by artists like Andy Goldsworthy OBE and Halima Cassell. The exhibition opened on 18 June and will run throughout the summer.

'THE OPPORTUNITY TO LOOK AT THE LANDSCAPE IN A DIFFERENT WAY'

Halima Cassell's pieces use different clays from across the globe, with a variety of textures and colours reflecting the geology and climate of their places of origin.  Hand carved in a soft, curvilinear style, her pieces have holes which allow light to form a link from one carving to the next.

Cassell commented: "The piece I'm exhibiting at Belsay is my reflection on the shared commonality of the human race; we are superficially different and yet fundamentally the same. The different clays were gathered from landscapes around the world; the rich diversity of texture and hue reflecting the geology and climate of their places of origin.

Matt Thompson, Head Collections Curator at English Heritage said: "By bringing the outside into the beautiful atmosphere of Belsay Hall we have the opportunity to look at the landscape in a different way."

The exhibition features works loaned to English Heritage from the Arts Council Collection at London's South Bank Centre.
