Advisory Council seeks new members

The Advisory Council on National Records and Archives is looking to appoint three new members. The Council advises the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport on records and archival matters, in particular access to historical information under the Freedom of Information Act (FOI) and the Public Records Act, and on policy issues relating to archival records.

It is chaired by the Master of the Rolls and its 17 members include experts with knowledge and experience in archives, digital archives, academic research, information management, social and cultural history, Parliament and the civil and diplomatic services.

Criteria

The Council is looking for individuals who can demonstrate a proven ability to form an independent view, have the ability to weigh up the balance of arguments, scrutinise and influence policy and engage and facilitate in strategic thinking.

Applicants should have a track record of contributing to senior level discussions and also demonstrate expertise in one of the following areas:

• archives policy and information management
• use of archives, e.g. as an academic or independent researcher, or journalist/media professional
• public policy and government, e.g. through experience of offering advice and undertaking scrutiny within the national political and administrative framework of government
