Age UK comments on Dispatches investigation into Bupa care homes

Age UK has commented on the Channel 4 Dispatches programme from Monday 19 June 2017, 'Bupa Care Homes Undercover'.

Caroline Abrahams, Charity Director at Age UK said:

"Every older person has a right to dignity and good care and any incident in which these rights are breached is one too many. Care providers are charged with huge responsibility when they care for older people who are profoundly physically and mentally unwell, and they must make sure that any setting they administer is well run and well led, and staffed adequately by people who have the time and personal commitment to provide compassionate, professional care, every time.

"Consistently good care, offered with kindness, is something we should all be able to expect for ourselves and our loved ones if and when we need it in later life, but unfortunately this is seriously at risk in a care system that is crumbling as a result of years of Government underfunding and neglect. This is why it is so important that this Government presses ahead with a Green Paper on social care reform, and invests in the system to fill the huge funding gap we currently see."
