Appeal for witnesses following fatal collision in Wembley, north-west London

6 Apr 2020 11:43 AM

Our investigators are appealing for witnesses to a single-vehicle fatal road traffic collision in The Avenue, Wembley, north-west London at about 11.20pm on Wednesday 1 April 2020.  The vehicle involved was a dark blue Audi car.

The Audi was first seen travelling at speed by a patrolling police vehicle at the junction of Forty Avenue and Bridge Road, Wembley, and so investigators are particularly interested in any sightings of the Audi in this area.

A short time later the police found the same vehicle crashed in The Avenue, having collided with a tree and the driver, aged 26 from Willesden, sadly died immediately at the scene.

The Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) made a mandatory referral to the IOPC, as is standard in cases where a death has occurred following police contact. We declared an independent investigation shortly after 1am on Thursday 2 April.

Our investigators are keen to speak to any witnesses to the collision or who may have any information concerning the Audi involved.

We would appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision to contact us and assist with our independent investigation. Witnesses can call us on 0800 096 9078 or email wembley@policeconduct.gov.uk

IOPC Regional Director Sal Naseem recently said:

“This is a tragic incident and my thoughts are with the family of this man and all those affected by the events on Wednesday night. We have met with his family to explain our role and offer our support.”
