The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) is appealing for witnesses to a fatal road traffic collision in which a marked police car collided with a pedestrian in Mitcham on Wednesday, 5 June.

The Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) alerted us to the crash involving a police car, which was responding to a call, on Western Road at around 11.30am. Sadly the pedestrian, 64-year-old Delroy Robinson from Mitcham, died.

Our investigators attended the scene and we declared an independent investigation at 12.50pm that day.

IOPC Regional Director Sal Naseem said:

“This is a terribly tragic incident and my thoughts are with Mr Robinson’s family and all those affected by the events last Wednesday. We have met with Delroy’s family to explain our role and offer our support.

“It is important we carefully establish all of the circumstances surrounding the collision. We have obtained and are analysing body worn video footage of the incident and data from the police car suggests its siren and lights were activated. We are continuing to gather evidence and are keen to speak to anyone who was in the Western Road, Mitcham area at the time of the collision and may have witnessed anything.”

Witnesses can call us on 0800 029 4686 or email mitchamrtiwitness@policeconduct.gov.uk
