Applications for Estimates Day Debates

Backbench Members of Parliament are now able to apply to the Backbench Business Committee for debates in the Chamber on the public spending of Government Departments relating to the Estimates.

The Main Supply Estimates for 2020-21 have now been published and it is expected that there will be two days of debate in early July. Members wishing to apply for a debate on a Department's estimates should apply to the Backbench Business Committee using the application form above. Applications should be submitted to BBCom@parliament.uk by 2.30pm on Friday 19 June 2020.

The Backbench Business Committee will hear representations from Members who have submitted applications on Tuesday 23 June.

The House's Scrutiny Unit finance team can answer any questions you may have on Estimates, Estimates Day debates on government spending generally.
