Avon and Somerset Police officer in court charged with ABH and common assault

An Avon and Somerset Police officer has appeared in court charged with actual bodily harm (ABH) and common assault following an Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) investigation.

PC James Clements, 31, has pleaded not guilty to both charges after an incident on 4 December 2018 on the M5 slip road at junction 14. During the incident, a Taser was used as an object to strike a man, who sustained injuries.

Our investigation followed a complaint from the man’s family.

PC Clements appeared at Bristol Magistrates’ Court yesterday (17 June 2019) and will next appear before Bristol Crown Court on 8 July 2019.
