BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, has launched its Foundation Certificate in User Experience (UX), working with UX professionals to ensure a robust certification that reflects the skills needed in industry.
Jon Buttriss, CEO, BCS Learning & Development Ltd, part of the Institute, said: “UX focuses on a person's behaviours, attitudes, and emotions when using a particular product, system or service. In today’s digital world ensuring the best User Experience is critical for organisations; and employing people who are highly skilled in UX is essential in achieving this.
“As the importance of user experience grows, companies have identified a greater need for those operating in UX to prove their skillset within a recognised framework. Working alongside experts in the field, we have created the Foundation Certificate in User Experience to reflect this.”
The BCS Foundation Certificate in User Experience is aligned to SFIA (Skills Framework for the Information Age) and the syllabus is based around the ISO 9241-210 standard - the international standard for human-centred design of interactive systems.
Jon continues: “The route to working in UX has always been viewed as a more entrepreneurial career path; however, the importance of identifying core UX competencies is widely accepted and established in ISO 9241-210. By using this standard as a basis for our certification, BCS has produced a foundation certificate that demonstrates internationally recognised good practice in UX.”
The BCS Foundation Certificate in User Experience is part of the BCS Professional Certifications portfolio. The exam may be taken as a stand-alone certification, but also sits within the BCS software testing, project management, complimentary to the BA.
