BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT and the end point assessment organisation (EPAO) for digital apprenticeship standards, in conjunction with Swindon Borough Council, the local LEP, and training provider QA Apprenticeships will be running a dedicated apprenticeship event for employers on 19 September 2018 at the Carriage Works in Swindon at 11am.

The workshop will address the challenges faced by many organisations but also demystify apprenticeship delivery under the new reforms and how local employers can benefit. The event will provide employers with information from how to get started, on-programme delivery to end point assessment and how they can benefit from employing an apprentice.

This event is unique to Swindon, bringing together the collective expertise for apprenticeship delivery under one roof. Potential employers will have the opportunity to ask questions and come away with a better understanding of the what, the why and how their business will benefit.

Speakers at the event include Tony Pitchford from BCS, who will explain the new digital standards, why they are key to your business, the role of those involved, and end point assessment. There will also be an opportunity for employers to ask questions and network.

“People with strong digital skills are in high demand in today’s economy as the UK’s technology industry continues to boom, and apprentices of all ages are playing a valuable role in plugging the skills gap,” says Tony. “According to the Department for Education, 96% of employers with apprentices say their business has benefitted as a result, both from a revenue and an employee retention perspective.

“Digital apprenticeships continue to buck the national trend, with almost as many digital apprentices joining the industry as a whole in the first two quarters of 2018 (23,730) than enrolled in the whole of the academic year 2016/7 (28,230).

“The growth in digital IT apprenticeships is good news considering a recent report from Barclays shows that around 20% of all jobs advertised require advanced or expert digital skills and it is estimated that the country will need more than 1.2 million new technical and digitally skilled people by 2022 to satisfy future skills needs,” he says.
