The Minister for Housing and Regeneration, Carl
Sargeant has announced that completion of the Barry Island Link Road has been
brought forward by at least five years
Following a £2.1 million interest free loan from
the Welsh Government, the road, which forms part of the £230 million
Quays’ housing development on Barry Waterfront, is now expected to open
in 2015.
The
Minister for Housing and Regeneration, Carl Sargeant said,
“Thanks to an interest free loan of £2.1
million from the Welsh Government, the completion of the Barry Island Link Road
will be brought forward by at least five years, which is great
news.
“The road represents a major part of the extensive
regeneration that the area has seen over the past four years and I’m
delighted that work can now continue apace to help support the town, its
visitors and the local community.”
The
Welsh Government will provide the money to the council who will loan it to the
Housing Consortium, led by Persimmon Homes, in order facilitate an earlier
completion of the road.
The Minister added,
“This loan comes on top of the £9.8 million
the Welsh Government has already invested in 40 regeneration projects in Barry,
and clearly demonstrates our commitment to supporting the town and its
people.”
