Bringing the Sun to Swindon

8 Oct 2018 11:59 AM

Summer may be long gone, but an eminent solar physicist will be bringing the sun to Swindon later this month in a free public lecture.

STFC funds inspirational science in research projects all around the world – but starting this month, we will also be running a series of public events here in Swindon, where our offices are based.

Dr Helen Mason OBE from the University of Cambridge will be speaking to audiences about what science has already learnt about our dynamic sun, in particular what we now understand about sunspots, solar active regions and flares, and how the sun affects the Earth's environment.

She will also speak about the series of solar space observatories which have been watching the sun over the past couple of decades and the two solar satellites which will travel closer to the sun than ever before.

The talk is taking place from 7-8pm on October 23 in New College, Swindon. You can register for a free place here.
