The CBI has responded to a misleading article in yesterday’s Sunday Times Scotland edition.

Henrietta Jowitt, CBI Deputy Director-General, said yesterday:

“Hugh Aitken will continue to lead CBI Scotland until 2018 when he intends to retire as planned.

“The Scottish Sunday Times falsely accuses CBI Scotland of failing to criticise the Scottish Government’s business tax increases, which is completely unfounded and contrary to our considerable work in this area.

“CBI Scotland’s response to the Budget specifically challenges the ‘proposed increase to the large business supplement and other reliefs, which could affect investment intentions’.

“In fact today’s Sunday Times Scotland quotes Hugh Aitken saying the Scottish Government needs to ‘incentivise rather than impede investment by removing the large business supplement, which doubles what similar firms pay south of the border’.”

Hugh Aitken, CBI Scotland Director, commented:

“I will continue to ensure Scottish businesses receive the very best insight and that their voice is heard loud and clear in Holyrood and beyond.”
