The Consumer Council for Water (CCW) is delighted to be supporting and taking part in the 2020 Utility Week Consumer Vulnerability and Debt Conference (1-3 December).

The conference comes at a time when utilities are grappling with the immediate and long-term challenges posed by Covid-19 as more households find themselves in vulnerable circumstances.

CCW’s Andy White and Janine Shackleton will be leading a session called ‘Building a better future: CCW’s roadmap for more inclusive water services’ – setting out how the water industry has supported consumers during the pandemic and the difficulties that lie ahead. Our team will also explore the wider issue of support for consumers with a range of needs that demand temporary or long-term support.

Delegates will also have another opportunity to hear about the recent launch of CCW’s independent review of financial support for water customers, which has been commissioned by the UK and Welsh Governments.

The conference will feature an array of expert speakers from organisations including SGN, Utilita, Southern Water, Ofgem, South East Water and Western Power Distribution examining the impact of Covid-19 and the lessons learned, the role of flexibility in helping customers manage their repayments, and how utilities must optimise external partnership working.
