CHIME and BCS The Chartered Institute for IT Launch Chapter in the UK

A landmark agreement has been signed between the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) and BCS The Chartered Institute for IT in the UK.
The agreement means BCS members can access CHIME’s online materials and gain admission to the CHIME Healthcare CIO qualification programme (CHCIO), an internationally recognised qualification of senior leadership attainment in health informatics.
BCS members will also be able to attend educational and networking opportunities at key events in the health and care calendar in countries where CHIME has existing chapters. The aim is for BCS members to take advantage of these opportunities from the late autumn - and more details will be released nearer to that time.
BCS, as the professional body for the digital industries, has built up a substantial and growing health care community of over 2,000 members. This latest development forms part of the ongoing campaign by BCS to promote the adoption of recognised professional standards by IT staff working in healthcare.
The BCS mission also includes encouraging those working in the sector, across the board, to sign up for the Federation for Informatics Professionals register (FEDIP), which is the only public register for all informatics professionals in the UK dedicated to delivering better health and care through the advanced use of technology.
Adam Thilthorpe, Director for Professionalism at BCS, said: “We fully support national policy ambitions to build digital leadership in the NHS workforce. BCS members working in health and care have already shown a commitment to professional development and recognition. Our members will use CHIME’s materials to address personal development needs, and many will qualify as CHCIO and count themselves as part of an international cadre of digital health leaders.”
CHIME is a membership-based organisation serving more than 2,900 chief information officers and senior healthcare executives in 56 countries.
“CHIME is committed to serving membership organisations like BCS to bring professional training and accreditation to leaders working in health and care IT,” said Russell Branzell, CHIME’s President and CEO.
“Now, more than ever before, these individuals are taking on responsibility for data, enterprise IT systems and population health analytics and we stand ready to support them grow into exceptional leaders, because we truly believe health IT has the power to transform patient care.”
CHIME now has nine international chapters. This year CHIME established chapters in Austria, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg and Switzerland after launching a chapter in India in 2017. In addition, CHIME has signed letters of intent for partnerships with organisations in Canada, Ireland and Israel.
