Call for 'latte levy' to cut cup waste backed by MP's - WWF comment

Anne Meikle, Head of WWF Cymru, commented on the publication of the report,  MPs call for "latte levy" on coffee cups

“We know the carrier bag charge worked in Wales so, on the face of it, introducing a tax on disposable coffee cups should have the same effect. With incentives such as discounts for bringing your own cup, companies are also contributing to tackling waste - especially non-recyclable plastic waste which is particularly damaging to our environment and wildlife.

Taking steps to reduce our waste in Wales makes a positive contribution to global well-being – reducing our impact on wildlife and nature and benefiting future generations. There are many additional levers to reduce plastic waste in Wales which the Welsh Government and local authorities could be introducing to meet the well-being goals of the Well-being of Future Generations Act.”
