Calling all UK Horizon 2020 Grant Holders

As the deadline for the UK’s exit from the EU approaches, UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) is reminding all charities, businesses and research organisations with a UK grant from the EU’s Horizon 2020 funding programme to register their details with UKRI as soon as possible.

The UK is a top five Horizon 2020 collaboration partner for each of the other 27 European Union Member States and there have been over 38,000 collaborative links with Member States, including with our top five partners: Germany, Spain, Italy, France and the Netherlands.

The UK government and the EU intend that UK researchers and businesses will be able to continue to participate in Horizon 2020 on the same terms as now, for the remaining duration of the programme.

In the event that the UK leaves the EU without a deal, however, the government has guaranteed to underwrite funds for the lifetime of the projects for all successful bids for UK Horizon 2020 grants open to third country participation, as long as they are submitted before the end of 2020.

UKRI will manage the underwrite if it is needed.

Anne Dixon, Head of Operations at UKRI, said: “UKRI launched a special portal for Horizon 2020 in September 2018 and has had a steady stream of registrations, especially from the academic community. But we are aware there are still people and organisations that haven’t submitted their details and its vital they do so, as soon as possible so we can communicate the next steps in the delivery of the underwrite if it needs to come into effect. We also need to remind people that even if they submitted earlier but have since received new grants, they still need to register those details with us.”
