Transport Minister, Edwina Hart said:

“As well as free travel across the bus network in Wales, holders of a concessionary travel pass can also get free travel on some Mid and North Wales rail lines. I am very pleased Arriva Trains Wales are now offering a discount for use on the Cardiff & Valleys network. This will further improve access to public transport for the elderly, disabled and armed forces personnel.”

There are more than 720,000 concessionary pass holders in Wales, including Armed forced personnel and veterans.

Concessionary travel pass holders are entitled to free rail travel year round on the Borderlands and Conwy Valley Lines and during the autumn and winter months on the Heart of Wales and Cambrian Coast Lines.

Lynne Milligan, Arriva Trains Wales Customer Services Manager said:

“This new standardised offer across the Cardiff and Valleys network will hopefully make our train services attractive to a wider audience and will make it easier and more accessible for customers to use our train services at a discounted price during the off-peak periods.”
