A Cheshire Constabulary officer has been found guilty of common assault following an Independent Police Complaints Commission investigation.

PC Richard Jordan, 35, was found guiltyof common assault by beating (contrary to s39 of the Criminal Justice Act 1988) following a two-day trial at Manchester and Salford Magistrates Court.

The charge related to an incident in Northwich on 26 April 2015 in which Pc Jordan used excessive force, including the discharge of a Taser, while arresting a man.

The IPCC conducted an independent investigation into the incident and the Crown Prosecution Service authorised the bringing of criminal charges.

PC Jordan will be sentenced on 26 April 2016.

The IPCC will now discuss potential disciplinary matters relating to PC Jordan with Cheshire Constabulary.
