Children invited to join out-of-this-world art competition

One of the UK’s leading space science facilities is launching a children’s art competition as part of World Space Week.

The winners will get the chance to meet expert space engineers and have a space scientist visit their school.

STFC’s RAL Space in Oxfordshire is currently building a new facility to test spacecraft to make sure they are ready to be launched into space.

Inside this National Satellite Test Facility, scientists will shake spacecraft to make sure they can survive the journey to space in a rocket and bake spacecraft to make sure that they can survive the extreme temperatures in space.

While the facility is being built, RAL Space wants to put three pictures on display outside the building site to help explain the work which will take place inside – and is asking children to design these images.

The competition, which closes on November 23, is open to children aged 5-11 years and must be based on the theme of space satellites.
