Children's Commissioner responds to NSPCC report stating that more than half a million men in the UK may have viewed child sex abuse images on the internet.
Anne Longfield, Children’s Commissioner for England, said: “Every one of these images and videos depicts a crime scene. The knowledge that these can be viewed and quickly shared widely is deeply traumatising for children involved. We know that a significant proportion of online offenders may also be contact offenders. It is vital that there are continued international efforts to apprehend those behind these crimes, stop the supply, and innovative approaches used to deter perpetrators from accessing and sharing these images and videos. Important steps have been taken to disrupt this offending but this research is a stark reminder that more can and must be done.”
