Christmas present of National Treasures for the public

In the past year the government’s Cultural Gifts and Acceptance in Lieu schemes have accepted 42 cases worth £27 million for the nation, as highlighted in our annual report published today.

Paintings, sculptures, ceramics, prints, drawings, papers and manuscripts have been accepted and allocated to public collections throughout the UK, including Tate, the British Museum, Pallant House, Ulster Museum, the Whitworth, Scottish National Galleries and many more, where they are available for everyone to engage with and enjoy.

Nicholas Serota, Chair, Arts Council England said:

I am extremely pleased that in the past year, through Acceptance in Lieu and the Cultural Gifts Scheme, so many important works of art, objects, manuscripts and archives have come into public ownership, allowing them to be enjoyed by millions of people across the UK.
